Suisun in Good Hands with Hudson

October 25, 2010

Letter to the Editor

I recently returned from the League of California Cities' annual conference at which I was the voting delegate for the city of Fairfield. It was my first trip to the conference and I was fortunate to benefit from the leadership of my colleague in Suisun City, Mike Hudson, who was also the voting delegate for his city. This means that we represented our cities while voting on issues that affect all of us.

I was impressed with Hudson who single-mindedly worked for the citizens of Suisun City. The conference is serious business and Hudson treated it as such. Even during down time when he wasn't attending seminars on how to make his city better, Hudson  worked for Suisun City by talking with other elected officials, vendors, and attending meetings with colleagues from throughout the state.

He was able to bring home free software for Suisun City that will ultimately help citizens report via their cell phones such things as graffiti or dangers in the city. Hudson also won a free defibrillator for his fire department.

None of this surprises me. I have worked with hundreds of elected officials over the years as a journalist and now as an elected official. Hudson is a dedicated, hardworking man who always puts Suisun City first. He is proud of the city and he should be.

Crime has dropped more than 10 percent there, the city's streets have improved under his watch, all schools have afterschool programs, and the city has healthy reserves, a rarity these days when the state plunders city coffers.

I am honored to have Hudson running Fairfield's next-door neighbor. A healthy Suisun City helps Fairfield in many ways. I also sit with Hudson on the Fairfield-Suisun Sewer Board, where he is on the executive committee. He is always well informed and votes in the best interests of Suisun City.

While he isn't leading the city, Hudson runs a small business and a nonprofit that helps those who need help in these rough times. He is a veteran of the Navy where he began his public service for our country.

Suisun City voters should reelect Hudson in November, as well as Mayor Pete Sanchez and Vice Mayor Jane Day. The three have consistently shown selflessness, leadership and forward thinking that has made Suisun City a great place to live and visit.

Suisun City is in good hands with Hudson, and the state can use his continued common sense leadership on the League of California Cities.
