Activites Aplenty at Suisun City Library

June 30, 2010

SUISUN CITY - July will be an active month for the Suisun City Library, which is celebrating its second birthday.

The library is starting the first of its weekly Thursday Evening Shows series at 7 p.m. today with the local comedy troupe, Rats in the Alley, putting on one of its improvisational shows.

Following weeks will offer a dance review July 8, a competitive slam poetry team July 15, a ukulele jam July 22 and an open talent show July 29.

'The summer nights are so pleasant. We wanted to put on something fun for the neighbors to do, to come over to the library so see some comedy, poetry or some local dance groups,' said Jim Silverman, the library's young adult librarian.

There are still slots open for people interested in performing in the dance review which already features hula dancing, belly dancing and a performance by the very animated sandwich-board artist Dennis Statewright who can be seen at the corner of Highway 12 and Sunset Avenue.

To register to take part in the July 29 open talent show, contact Silverman at 784-1532.

The series will wrap up Aug. 5 with a special surprise show which Silverman isn't talking about but said 'will be particular good fun.'

A new program, Yoga for Teens, is 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday and taught by local resident Ginger Tracy.

'It is a good class for people who have never tried yoga before,' Silverman said.

For more information about these upcoming events, call the library at 784-1532. The library is located at 601 Pintail Drive.
